I wrote a few blog posts on Kasten, if it helps. You don't need the Veeam product at all to use Kasten, but if you do have Veeam, then you can also send your backups to an existing Veeam Backup Repository, which is a nice feature, and there's more integrations on the horizon (based on the VeeamON Conference 2022). You can try Kasten K10 free using the Free Kasten K10 version or the Enterprise Trial. From a backup admin perspective, the UI is clean and easy to adopt, and the ability to provide multi-cluster, something velero doesn't today (afaik), and marry this to policies, also makes it further more powerful at an enterprise level. Kasten K10 pricing is simple, it is node-based. It gives you everything you need at a Kubernetes layer to create and protect backups, and move them off elsewhere. Essentially they bring the wider scale orchestration as an enterprise feature, that you don't get out of the box from Velero. Kasten K10, an award-winning data management platform purpose-built for Kubernetes, provides enterprise operations teams an easy-to-use, scalable, and secure. Runs on OpenShift 4. There are some enterprise backup products out there, that for their Kubernetes protection capabilities, layer ontop of Velero. Kubernetes Backup and Mobility Kasten K10, a data management platform purpose-built for Kubernetes, provides enterprise operations teams an easy-to-use, scalable, and secure system for backup/restore, disaster recovery, and mobility. Velero is handy but requires a lot of setup and configuration, and if you need to integrate with a backup team, or even train them, it requires a bit of work and thinking about how it all fits in.
